Quick Takes: Trouble Maker’s Trouble Maker

These two are totally going to be such trouble makers.

Heh. Before they’d even released their mini-album, Hyuna (4Minute) and Hyunseung (B2ST), who have formed a sub-unit of their own called Trouble Maker, have already caused a ruckus with their kissing stunt during the Troublemaker stage at MAMA 2011.

(Which by the way, I don’t believe the official word about it being a lip-cheek thing. It looks too real/close to not be lip-lip. Lol.)

The music video for their title single, Trouble Maker, has just been dropped and it looks pretty good. It’s quite addictive as well, what with the whistling and that funky groove they’ve got going on. Plus points are the gorgeous cityscape, and them pretty people dressed up in their fantabulous clothes.

Another thing of note is be the chemistry between the 2Hyuns. Unfortunately enough (or not, for the Junseung fans *ahem*), it isn’t sizzling in this video. At least, not for me. Where was that crazy intimate thing you two had going on at MAMA? I want more!

What’s great is that Trouble Maker is  a male and female idol sub-unit. We’ve had collaborations of male-female idols on songs, but correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think we’ve ever had a proper mixed group that came out with an album.

Cube Entertainment also plans to release more unit groups who will be “male-male, female-female, and male-male-female” respectively, so I’m pretty excited to see what they’ve got.

Quick Takes: Daesung – Lunatic (What’s Up OST)

It’s rather out of the blue, but the music video for Daesung’s soundtrack for his upcoming drama, What’s Up, has just been released. The song’s called Lunatic, and I really like it.

It feels kind of like Linkin Park/Evanescence in the beginning, especially with the piano and that creepy distorted guitar. But unfortunately when Daesung starts the chorus, it falls a bit flat because it feels like there could have been a totally epic build up, especially with a voice like Dae’s.

I’ve got this feeling a violin accompaniment would have totally nailed it.

On the video: The sudden unfurling of the white wings (an angel’s?) was quite snort-worthy. It just totally broke the feel of the whole music video for me. And finally…. Welcome back, Daesung.

Terrible at waiting

I ordered a Kindle Touch… And I’m a terribly impatient gal. Cue numerous clicks on the “Track Orders” button even though I know it’ll only say the same thing: It’s on its way. But I can’t help it ’cause I’m too excited!

Quick Takes: U-KISS’ Tick Tack

This came out a few days ago, and frankly, I wasn’t very impressed on my first impression. It felt really messy – too many elements, and if there was a beat tying them together, I wasn’t getting it. I’m no audio snob, but the audio quality from the video wasn’t very clear either, so that turned me off quite a bit as well.

But then today the boys started tweeting about it, so… what can a poor fangirl do but give it another chance?

Okay lah. On second listen, it’s not too bad. The techno-y dance track kind of grows on you after a while. The dance is as sharp as ever, and I’m glad they’ve been able to keep to that level of standard. I also really like the dark set. It reminds me of the Man Man Ha Ni days when I first fell for their bad boy looks.

Seriously. Kevin with a blond ponytail. Badass or what? *u* And that Dongho… That whole bad boy feel made me a pedo-noona. OTL

So… I like the song, but I’m not crazy about it. I’ll listen to it, but it’s not on my rape-this-song list. Then again, the full song will only be released on December 14, so we’ll see.

The age-old argument of Samsung vs. Apple

I like Apple. And even though I’d choose an iPhone over a Samsung Galaxy II, I can’t deny that the Galaxy is pretty good as well.

Which is why their new ad just falls utterly flat, in my opinion. If they were trying to go for funny, they came off like a child who’s resorted to name-calling and mocking because they can’t win.

I mean, if you’re calling me a hipster and pretentious, how is this going to make me want to buy a product from you? Unless of course, you’ve decided you don’t need the Apple fans at all. Then this “strategy” would make sense.

Like Kevin Whipps from iPhone Appstorm says:

“I don’t like being told that because I’m a line waiter, I’m pretentious or a douche in any way. Or I can’t accept the fact that there’s something “better” out there. And frankly, I don’t like being made fun of.”

Go check out Kevin’s article, “Samsung vs. Apple: The Illogical Argument“. Pretty much encapsulates my thoughts.
